“Wildness Tips”— Blended BFA Thesis Exhibition
EKU Giles Gallery, April 28-May 10, 2024
Statement
Last semester I had a lovely experience of learning exclusively from women, who fostered my confidence and surrounded me with care, and left me with a determination to embody the lessons I gathered. My thesis is primarily focused on ecofeminism—the vases are meant as an allegory for the woman’s body and hinge on the woman-nature connection. I mean for these vases to exude strength and certainty in their nature, existing outside of culturally gendered norms. In other words;
By nature of not being the default, women are raised to question their very presence in any space. One must choose if and how to show up, and whether it be for yourself or others. Courage is a choice; love is a choice. This work explores the woman I strive to show up as, the strength I wish to carry, and the love I move with. Let us not limit ourselves, nor allow anyone else to.
“What this world needs is more women who have quit fearing themselves and started trusting themselves. What this world needs is masses of women who are entirely out of control.”
